Love is a wonderful thing, and it is essential to feed it a regular diet of fun and adventure in order for your relationship to stay connected. Just like the internet, a lagging connection can cause immense frustration in relationships. The best way to keep your connection stable? Dating. To that end, here are 5 delightfully nerdy date night ideas!
#1. Movie Marathon
The first entry on the list is the quintessential nerdy date night idea. There has never been a better time to have a movie marathon than right now, and the options only continue to grow!
The Marvel Cinematic Universe has a full week of runtime at this point; and if you aren’t feeling that, how something a bit more classic? Back to the Future, Superman, Batman, Lord of The Rings, and don’t even get me started on the idea of having a Disney movie marathon and letting your inner children bond over nostalgia!
The options are endless, and ultimately, it’s going to be up to you to know what the perfect theme for for your movie marathon will be. The trick here is to not focus too much on the movie, and instead use it as an opportunity to talk to each other about how you are seeing it, and what your interpretations of the stories are!
2. Game Night (Board, Video, Tabletop, or otherwise)
The name of this blog is “Couch Co-Op”, so I’m sure it’s no surprise that I’m a big believer in playing games together. Do you think that the days of “board game night” are over? Think again! There are more options than ever before for a schedule of board games, and Monopoly doesn’t even have to factor in! The classics will always have their place of course, but with new games coming out all the time, you can play a new game every week and still not get through them all!
Board games not your thing? You can always revisit your childhood and break out your old trading cards for a game (Or pick up some new ones, because a lot of them are still going strong)!
And of course, if you have a system with 2 controllers, you can always vie for dominance in your favorite video games! There is nothing like a little friendly competition to bring a couple closer together!
If you’ve spent any time on the internet, then you know how powerful a new book can be for the nerd in your life. And sometimes an old book can be even better. Find your nearest used book store, and get lost together as you look for a hidden gem!
If you’re looking for a more affordable way to get your book-based date night fix, get a membership at your local library and browse the stacks to your hearts content for free!
4. Learn Something New
Cooking classes and dance lessons are cliche dates for a reason: learning something together is a shared experience that creates a lasting impact on both of you. But they aren’t the only things you can learn together; we live in an age where you can learn just about anything on your own. Instructional videos are everywhere on YouTube, and you can learn anything from how to bake a poop-emoji brownie to how to build a modular workbench. If you want to flex your DIY muscles together, look around your community to see if there are any classes that you are both interested in!
Take some time to find something that you and your partner want to learn together, and get your learning on!
5. Make Something Together
Movies, games, books, and classes are all great, but nothing creates lasting memories like working together to make something awesome! Art and craft projects can be fun, and doing one together will imbue it with a sentimentality that can put a smile on your face every time you see it! Go to the nearest art supply store, get some paint and a canvas, and just go to town. Or build a model airplane, or that modular workbench I was just talking about. You don’t even have to work on the same thing; some of my fiancee’s and my favorite dates are when we both work on our own art projects. She’s a painter, I draw. It’s the making it together that’s the important part.
So there you have it! 5 date night ideas for the nerdy couple! I would love to hear all about your experiences, so tell me your stories in the comments. Share this post with your friends if you feel like they could use it!
